Adam5100 and Michael Genovese at White Walls, SF, CA

July will mark the opening of a new show at White Walls featuring the artwork of Adam 5100 and Michael Genovese. Both these artists have their own unique way of creating pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing at first glance, but when a closer look is taken, each layer reveals much more that what is on the surface.

Adam 5100 uses an extensive knowledge of printmaking and savvy ability with spray paint in his stencil work. Each stenciled piece represents hundred s of hours of meticulous work and a fine detail--the hallmark of his work. Much of it is based on influences of classic American photography, the freedom of modern and contemporary painting, and his own fast moving imagination. Adam 5100’s paintings have taken on a satirical look, challenging concepts of modernity, using spaces as a language to describe forgotten places, and light to evoke their story and context within our time.

Michael Genovese is a self-taught artists heralded for his hand lettering, site specific work, and public art approaches. He uses materials specific to sign making (aluminum plates with a baked enamel surface) to create his “engravings,” scratching text and patterns to reveal the metal underneath. Genovese pushes both artist and observer out of their comfort zone by promoting urban expressionism in an almost explosive and in your face approach while maintaining a uniquely personal point of view with each mark he makes.

The opening reception will be Saturday July 19th, 2008 from 7pm-11pm at White Walls Gallery located at 835 Larkin Street in San Francisco. For any questions or to view a preview of the work call (415) 931-1500 or visit www.whitewallssf.com.
