SPACE REUNION 2006
Jeff Heart has single-handedly put this together and he is really excited about it. He organized everything, is providing everything, and even did the flyer and is doing all the promotions. This club meant a lot to a lot of people, and this is Jeff's way of giving them a chance to get together and relive the memories, with the DJs all playing records from that time period....

PRESENTS GOING GLOBAL, BREAKING BOUNDARIES
In October 2006, Da Vinci Art Alliance will present a multi-media group exhibition and panel discussion showcasing 5 minority artists from the Philadelphia area (Selma Eron, Allan Espiritu, Karey Maurice, Leon Rainbow, and LiQin Tan), whose art is influenced by cultures and ethnic groups outside their own. While it would not be unusual for an Asian-born artist to be inspired by traditional Oriental culture, or for an African-American artist to be affected by ancestral African traditions, what is a significant advancement towards a true melting-pot culture is for a Black artist to look to South America for his inspiration, or a Chinese immigrant to find his source material in Native American art. This kind of cross-cultural art is the focus of Going Global, Breaking Boundaries. What connects the 5 diverse artists in Going Global, working in a variety of styles and media, is their common desire to dissolve the differences that separate us in favor of an art that unites us.
In conjunction with the show, a panel discussion, supported by a grant from the Campbell Soup Foundation “Dollars for Doers” Program,” will be held on Sunday, October 29, which will include the artists, curator (Art Historian Dr. Debra Miller), and guest discussant (internationally acclaimed photographer Jon Naar), and which will focus on the artists’ personal objectives in creating art inspired by world cultures and their motivations for “going global.”

With this exhibition, Da Vinci Art Alliance hopes to reflect the ethnic transformation of South Philadelphia, to be inclusive of the growing minority populations that now comprise a sizable percentage of its community, and to encourage everyone to work together and to appreciate each other’s ethnic backgrounds and cultural history. This is especially timely now, after the local “cheesesteaks in English” controversy in South Philadelphia this summer. Da Vinci hopes to present a better public image for Philadelphians, and to show that it not only accepts, but benefits from, the participation of all the people who have come together in the “City of Brotherly Love.”
