- Pure Evil's Live East Die Young

PURE EVIL SOLO SHOW AT INK-D GALLERY BRIGHTON !!!

4th July-2nd August 2008

"To understand a bit about the artist PURE EVIL it is illuminating to know that he is a descendant of Sir Thomas More, the Lord Chancellor who wrote the controversial work Utopia and who was later beheaded by King Henry VIII. With this busy background (Sir Thomas was later canonised) it is only natural that Pure Evil should explore the darker side of the wreckage of Utopian dreams and the myth of the Apocalypse, a belief in the life-changing event that brings history with all its conflicts to an end.

Using dark humour and twisting symbolism to create new forms, the new show looks at what lurks around the corner on the secret streets of London and sheds light on the things under our noses that we never take the time to notice - as we hurtle forwards into the future...

Take a look at this extraordinary new street artists new originals and prints this July at Ink_d and prepare to be challenged, amused and delighted."

- Larry Cyr at The Goodfoot, Portland

The Goodfoot will have an art opening last Thursday, June 26th from 5-11pm, the show will be up until July 28th.  The artists this month are Jacob Wooton, Keith Rosson and Larry Cyr.

Keith Rosson was born in Ashdown, Arkansas. Formative years spent in the Pacific Northwest. Education at Cornish College of the Arts and Portland State University. Graduated at neither .  With a heavy nod to comic book culture and a cut-and-paste punk aesthetic, Keith Rosson’s paintings are simultaneously droll and incendiary; he tackles emotional, universal themes with a dark, tongue-in-cheek gallows humor. Bright, text-heavy and immediately recognizable, Rosson’s acrylic paintings often utilize secondary elements that most often include ink and correction fluid, as well as bullets, teeth, nails, switchblades and cell phones and has led one critic to claim that, “(Rosson) continues putting out the finest graphic novels distilled into paintings in the Pacific Northwest.”

Jacob Wooton lives here in Portland, OR  He has created giant bird wing sculptures and dream markets...and more animal paintings...bigger and better animal paintings folks, bigger and better...because the recipe for success never calls for smaller and crappier...it just doesn't.

Larry Cyr is a Seattle stencil artist.  Most of his subject matter deals with politics, social issues, the working class, war.....When creating a piece, he uses his backgrounds in graphic design and photo journalism...Larry served in the Infantry in Ramadi, Iraq with the U.S. Army and prior to that he served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Reconnaissance Marine.

Hope to see you at the opening.  Thanks.

- Stencil Nation Art Exhibit Sneak Peak

The walls are up for the Stencil Nation book release. For the out-of-towners who won’t be able to see the show, and for those who stopped by earlier in the day to check things out, I’m posting a few photos of the walls at Revolution Cafe. “Lenin in the house!” Al Kizziah and his sharp eye on straight lines saved my ass while setting up the show. I admit the show is DIY, down to the clips, tacks, and holey red wall. But I think the walls have a great narrative and that the different art mixed quite nicely. One wall is the DECAY wall in my imagination. There’s sequential images on that wall. The other wall splashes with color and is the Pop Art wall in my imagination. It too tells a story, beginning with the great Stalin-above-the-power box placement. The other wall looked off tonight because the glass doors weren’t folded up in a space we kept open. And we also had to take the piano placement into account for the DECAY wall. Al and I actually got stuck on the DECAY wall, knew where to start with Scott Williams anchoring the other wall. The Pop Art wall worked itself out in under an hours worth of work. I turned around and the DECAY wall finally worked itself out. Al had great input for all the art placement.

Enjoy the photos and see you this weekend!
