Albuquerque, NM - Donkey Gallery is pleased to announce IN THE CUT, an open call stencil jam, December 7th through December 16th, with opening reception Friday, December 7, from 6-9 pm. Donkey Gallery is issuing an open call for artists interesting in submitting stencils for this all out wall covering show. With the rise of cultural consciousness of street art, stencils are playing a larger role in the low brow DYI neo-American aesthetic. Because of the material constraints of a contiguous piece of paper, which renders a graphic high contrast image, stencils are the stiff, austere sibling to more fluid athletic graffiti art. More premeditated, but quicker in application, stencils have a speed-read iconic nature that recommends them to more ironic and political messages.

IN THE CUT is an open call community wide event. Absolutely anyone can bring in a stencil of whatever they choose. Artists interested in more information should call or email David Leigh (505-463-3995/ david@donkeygallery.org).

There will be three different categories of organization for Donkey's three walls. One wall will feature a geometric design or skeleton on which artistic editors (to be announced) will attach walk in stencils. Another wall will be a specific design for which artists are issued shaped sheets of paper that will recombine to make a puzzle piece design. The third wall will be assigned to a collective group to do with as they see fit.

Donkey is very excited about its newest community-wide open call show. As in the past, the outcome is absolutely up in the air, and as ever, the expectations are high.
