Young & Free : Sneak Peek
Met up with Ha-Ha last night to catch up and welcome him and the other artists to San Francisco. He happened to have a key to the gallery, so took me over to show me the walls. The long hallway entrance to 941 Geary will be covered in street art and graffiti, similar to the famous Hoosier Lane in Melbourne. Ha-Ha said that the coverage was in progress, so expect more layers than these sneak peak photos have. After the tour, I bought Ha-Ha a pint at a nearby Tenderloin dive bar where the crew has designated their local. Good to see some of these folks I met in Melbroune when I launched my Stencil Nation tour three years ago.

Joshua Smith - Outside Inside:
Adelaide-artist Joshua Smith’s solo show ‘Outside Inside’ was inspired by the roots of subway graffiti art on types of transport in NYC and Paris between the 70s and 80s. With an exciting and off-route concept; all works in Josh’s show are based on photographs of vehicles he has taken which he then paints his original works onto the miniature vehicles on his canvases. Each artwork Josh has created from hand cut stencils which are spray painted onto canvas; one work alone contains a least 16 layers of paint.

About the Artist
“:01 represents one second. In times of adversity, it only takes a single second to decide you’re going to pick yourself up and move forward in a positive direction, regardless of the circumstances involved. :01 means never give up. Stay the course. Believe in who you are. Embrace the next challenge and begin a new chapter.”

Circleculture Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming group show Paper Works. The exhibition focuses on paper as a medium, its extensive variety and creative potential.
Paper is one of the oldest mediums in visual art and gained its most influence through techniques such as letter pressing and the graphic arts. Within the twentieth century paper’s role as a neutral carrier of paint and text decreased and instead it was the material itself that became of importance. Nowadays, especially amongst Urban Artists, paper has again become a significant medium, from graphic design and illustration, to silkscreen printing and wheat paste cut outs and posters in the streets.
Paper Works will showcase explorations of the medium from Christian Awe,…

About Young & Free
“I like renegades – there’s something so attractive about their natural instinct to defy convention.” Anon.
Some call Australia the ‘lucky country’, but we’ve always made our own fate. From a rebellious past we’ve forged an identity steeped in cunning ingenuity, creative discontent and unorthodox flair. We’ve staged rebellions over rum, gained notoriety and won Nobels. We invented cask wine and Wi-Fi and we’ve won countless world titles. There may not be a lot of us, but we’ve always packed a punch.
So it is no surprise that with nothing more than a can of…
