Joe Boruchow (Phila, PA)

Submitted by russell on

Joe Boruchow began making paper cutouts while stenciling posters for his Philadelphia based rock band The Nite Lights. As his stencils became more intricate and less durable he began making prints from the cutouts and the resulting black and white images they produced have become a mainstay on Philadelphia’s posting boards and telephone poles.

Probably the founding father of street art in France, using stencils among other styles in the 1970s.

Since 1966 he has made the street both the setting and the subject of his ephemeral works af art, which echo and underscore the historical and current events occurring there.
