Stencil Festival Melbourne Call for Art

Stencil Festival is now inviting stencil and street artists to apply for the exhibition of artworks at the Yarra Sculpture Gallery warehouse in Melbourne from 1 - 10 August 2008. This year's Stencil Festival will present three separate exhibitions:

- Five Continents - Six Artists (featured artists, by invitation only)

- Stencil Festival Group Show, including Emerging Artist Award (open for applications now, see blow)

- DeVinyl - limited edition vinyl toys show (call will follow soon)

The Stencil Festival Group Show is a submission-based exhibition open to artists from around the world. It will offer cash and product prizes for the best artwork by an emerging artist. An independent jury will judge works on idea, execution, and technique.

Please carefully read the following guidelines and information about the application process. Deadline for Applications to Exhibit is Friday, 13 June 2008. Artists whose application is successful will have to submit their works until Monday, 21 July 2008.

 

Application Process

Eligibility to Apply

The exhibition is open to emerging and established artists fom Australia and overseas. There is no age limit.

Submissible Artworks

All forms of street art, preferably stencil art, aerosol works, illustrations and mixed media works are invited. Accepted artists can to submit TWO works.

Artworks must be original works by the artist. Works which are for whatever reason deemed to pose a significant public safety risk will not be exhibited. Artwork MUST be adequately prepared for hanging.

Mediums

A broad cross section of mediums will be considered including painting, printmaking, illustration, photography, sculpture, ceramics, digital or mixed media. The exhibition includes 2D and 3D works.

Criteria and Selection

Consideration of artists and works will be made with reference to the above guidelines, but the most important criteria will be the strength and quality of the art itself. Final selection for inclusion in the exhibition will be at the sole discretion of the curating jury.

Application

All artists wishing to exhibit in the 2007 Stencil Festival are required to submit an application via email, pay the application fee and submit three digital images of their work.

Application Fee

Australian artists are required to pay an application fee of A$20.00 until the due date by EFT (for Australian artists) into the following account. Remember to type your name into the reference line for identification purposes. Account details: Melbourne Stencil Festival, ANZ BANK, BSB 013 334, Account number 492326495.

Fee for international artists: USA: $19.00, Europe: € 12.00, UK: £ 9.50, Jap: ¥ 2,000.00

Do NOT send cheques, cash money or other forms of trade. Credit card payments will NOT be accepted.

 

HOW DO I APPLY?

1] Send an email with "Application to Exhibit Stencil Festival 2008" in the subject line to info {at sign} stencilfestival.com . Include your full name, your artist name, your city and age.

2] Attach 3 digital images* that represent your art

3] Make your payment and include (copy/paste or attach) a proof of your transaction

4] You may include links to websites that show your works

Results and Invitations

All applicants will be contacted regarding the results of the selection process by not later than Wednesday, 18 June 2007.

Successful applicants will be asked to complete and sign an Exhibition Contract and return it with the artwork to the Stencil Festival. Deadline for artwork submission is Monday, 21 July 2008.

Submitted works shall not be larger than 1800 x 1200 cm, must be ready to hang and clearly labeled on the back.

Please address and pack your works properly. Melbourne Stencil Festival will take no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged works.

The festival sales price will include a 40% commission and 10% tax. All sales will be processed by Melbourne Stencil Festival Inc. Artists, whose works sold, will be paid within four calendar weeks after the exhibition.

 

* The application images do NOT have to be works you intend to submit, but should be recent productions. Digital images should not be larger than 600 x 400 pixels. File size should not exceed 500 KB each.

** Stencil Festival guarantees that all submitted informations is kept private. Incomplete applications or late payments may result in exclusion from the selection process. Strictly not refund of application fees.
